Abstract:

The magic moment in the rebirth of the states and peoples in the central and East-European countries, at the end of 1989 revealed the richness of the traditions which were to convert into the disturbing display oh their striking difference. The communist states in this area had been subjected to a long and perverse technique, aiming at bringing them to uniformity and destroying their historical past. Yet, this historical past resisted and then took its revenge. It represents the essential and spectacular resource in regaining national identity, which, later an, was to lead to the configuration of their own ways for the peoples of central and Eastern Europe, in the process of rebuilding democracy. Our research has its view to identify the sources and the directions in the rebirthing process of gaining identity in the Annus mirabilis 1989.
