Abstract:

The neorealist research program has evolved as one of the leading intellectual enterprises in the discipline of International Relations. This process led to the emergence of various strands of neorealist theory, as well as to critical reactions from within the broader Realist school of thought. This raises certain problems for any effort to systematize the rich body of neorealist theory. However, most of these reactions, as well as post-Waltzian neorealism itself, can be better understood as efforts to relax the restrictive understanding of the scientific discipline of International Relations as international politics.
